Site Update: Sales Charts

I've been collecting sales data for a couple months now and it occurred to me that it's an under-utilized dataset. I decided to chart the sales for any given creator. Check out a creator page like Jeph Loeb's here for an example.

A disturbing number of these charts indicate an across-the-board sales decline. Not having paid any attention to sales in the past, it could just be a seasonal thing that occurs every year. Option "B" is, of course, the early signs of a reptilian apocalypse.

  Newsarama reports that 2007 was a "banner year" for comics sales: http://blog.newsarama.com/2008/01/22/2007-a-banner-year-for-comics-sales/ Maybe the falling figures you're seeing have more to do with the number of books that specific creators are working on in a given month rather than overall sales.

  That's good news. It could be that all books lose about 5% every month - just as a matter of fact (Check out Morrison's page as an example: http://comicscout.com/creator/grant-morrison/). Special issues and cross-overs, with their marketing, bump sales 25%. Maybe they're always chasing a loss of readership.
