I started reading Spider-man around the time these "fearful symmetry" books originally came out. I remember them being very dark for my still-gestating mind. Some of the abstract imagery and hallucinations had me quite confused. Reading this collection now, I'm struck by how much the story peters out (pun unintended but welcome) halfway through. Other than that, the narration, the prose is extremely well done - poetic but still communicating the story. Mike Zeck is probably the best comic artist of the 1980s (certainly the best cover artist), but the last few issues here look rushed - maybe by the inker.

If you never read this I recommend it.
